Features

Everything your clipboard should have already done

SnipTray was built for people who copy and paste hundreds of times a day, on multiple Apple devices, often as part of a team. Here is everything it does — and why each piece matters.

Clipboard history

Find any clip you ever copied — in seconds

SnipTray quietly remembers every text snippet, image, link, color, and file you copy. No more re-typing the same thing twice or hunting through old documents. Open the tray with a single hotkey and your entire history is right there, sorted by recency, searchable instantly.

  • Unlimited clipboard history on Pro and Teams
  • Spotlight-style fuzzy search across text, file names, and source apps
  • Smart filters: text, images, links, colors, files, code

Pinboards & snippets

Organize the clips you reach for every day

Group the things you paste constantly — email signatures, billing addresses, shipping templates, code blocks, brand colors — into Pinboards. Drag and drop, color-code, give them shortcuts, and they are always one keystroke away. Snippets support dynamic variables like the current date, clipboard contents, and form fields.

  • Unlimited pinboards with custom icons and colors
  • Dynamic snippet variables ({date}, {clipboard}, {ask})
  • Trigger snippets by keyboard shortcut or by typing a keyword

iCloud team sharing

Share clipboards with your team — securely via iCloud

SnipTray is the first clipboard manager built around iCloud sharing. Create a shared pinboard, invite your teammates by email or iCloud handle, and every snippet you add appears on their devices instantly. No third-party servers, no extra accounts, no data leaving the Apple ecosystem.

  • Invite teammates by email or iCloud — no separate signup
  • Role-based access: viewer, editor, admin
  • Real-time sync, conflict-free, end-to-end via iCloud
  • Audit log for Teams plan — see who added or edited what

Cross-device sync

One clipboard across Mac, iPhone, and iPad

Copy a link on your iPhone, paste it on your Mac. Copy a code block on your Mac, paste it on your iPad. SnipTray uses native iCloud sync, so your full clipboard history follows you across every Apple device you sign in to — securely, end-to-end, without configuration.

  • Universal Clipboard, but with full history
  • Works offline; syncs the moment you reconnect
  • iCloud-only — no third-party servers, no analytics

Keyboard-first

A clipboard manager that respects your keyboard

SnipTray was designed for people who never want to touch the mouse. A global hotkey opens the tray, arrow keys navigate, return pastes, and command-number jumps to a pinned snippet. Power users can build entire workflows without ever leaving the keyboard.

  • Customizable global hotkey (default ⌘⇧V)
  • Per-snippet shortcuts (⌘⇧1 through ⌘⇧9)
  • Quick paste-and-dismiss with a single keystroke

Rich previews

Every clip looks the way you copied it

SnipTray gives you proper previews for everything you copy. Hex colors render as swatches, JSON pretty-prints, code is syntax-highlighted, images show inline, links unfurl with titles. You always know what you are about to paste before you paste it.

  • Color swatches for hex, RGB, HSL, and OKLCH values
  • Syntax highlighting for 80+ programming languages
  • Image, file, and URL previews with metadata
  • Pretty-printed JSON, formatted Markdown, decoded base64

Privacy-first

Your clipboard is yours — and stays yours

A clipboard manager has access to everything you copy, including passwords, tokens, and private messages. SnipTray takes that responsibility seriously. Sensitive data is auto-detected and excluded. Apps you mark private (like 1Password) never have their clipboard recorded. And nothing — ever — leaves your iCloud.

  • Auto-detects and skips passwords, 2FA codes, and credit cards
  • App exclusion list — never record from selected apps
  • No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party tracking
  • Optional auto-clear after 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week

No tracking. No servers.

Your clipboard never leaves your iCloud.

  • ✓ End-to-end via iCloud
  • ✓ Auto-detect passwords & 2FA codes
  • ✓ Per-app exclusion list
Shortcuts & automation

Plugs into Apple Shortcuts and your workflows

SnipTray exposes its history, pinboards, and snippets to Apple Shortcuts so you can build automations around your clipboard. Save the last copied item to a note, send a snippet to a teammate, paste a templated reply into Mail — all without writing a single line of code.

  • Native Apple Shortcuts actions for read, write, search, paste
  • Trigger snippets from Stream Deck, Raycast, Alfred, BetterTouchTool
  • URL scheme for deep linking into specific snippets

Features FAQ

Common questions about SnipTray's features

Everything users ask before they switch from Paste, Pastebot, or the built-in macOS clipboard.

Does SnipTray have unlimited clipboard history?
Yes, on Pro, Lifetime, and Teams. The Free plan keeps your most recent 25 clips on a single Mac. Upgrade once and history is unlimited across every Mac, iPhone, and iPad signed in to your Apple ID, with iCloud sync and per-clip auto-cleanup rules (1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, or never) for anything you do not want kept around.
What file types can SnipTray store in its clipboard history?
Plain text, rich text, code, links, images (PNG, JPG, HEIC, WebP), files, colors (hex/RGB/HSL/OKLCH), and JSON. Each type gets a tailored preview in the tray — color swatches render live, code is syntax-highlighted across 80+ languages, and images show inline thumbnails so you can spot the right one without pasting.
How does iCloud team sharing work in SnipTray?
You create a pinboard, click Share, and invite teammates by email or iCloud handle. Each teammate gets a role — Viewer, Editor, or Admin — and the pinboard appears in their SnipTray instantly. Every clip syncs to the whole team in real time via Apple’s iCloud infrastructure; no SnipTray server, no third-party service, no separate account. An audit log records who changed what and when.
Does SnipTray sync between Mac, iPhone, and iPad?
Yes. Sign in to the same Apple ID on each device and your clipboard history, pinboards, and snippets sync automatically through your private iCloud container. Copy on your iPhone, paste on your Mac, paste again on your iPad — it works the way Universal Clipboard should, except it actually remembers more than the last item.
What is the default keyboard shortcut for the SnipTray clipboard?
The default tray hotkey on macOS is ⌘⇧V. You can change it to anything in Settings → Shortcuts (most users settle on something one-handed like ⌥V). Pinned items get number shortcuts from ⌘⇧1 through ⌘⇧9, and every SnipTray action is available in Apple Shortcuts so you can wire it into any workflow.
Will SnipTray store my passwords or sensitive data?
No. SnipTray automatically detects and excludes passwords (anything macOS flags as ConcealedType), 2FA codes, and credit-card numbers from history. You can add any app — 1Password, Bitwarden, Keychain Access, your banking app — to the per-user App Exclusion List in Settings → Privacy, and anything copied from those apps never enters history or sync.
