Turn on MCP and add an assistant

Enable the on-device server, add your AI tool, and paste the generated configuration.

No terminal and nothing to install — the MCP bridge is already bundled inside SnipTray. Setup is a switch in Settings and a single paste into your AI client.

Enable MCP access

1 Open SnipTray → Settings → MCP.
2 Turn on "Enable MCP access". This starts a small server that runs entirely on your Mac — over a private local socket, with no network port and no account.

Add your AI tool

1 Click Add AI tool and pick your assistant — Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, or any MCP client.
2 SnipTray mints a private access token just for that tool and builds a ready-to-paste configuration with the token and the bundled bridge’s path already filled in.
3 Copy the generated config and paste it into your client. For Claude Desktop that is claude_desktop_config.json; for Claude Code, SnipTray gives you a one-line "claude mcp add" command instead.
4 Restart the client. The SnipTray tools appear, and you can ask it to search, read, or paste from your clipboard.

Tip

You never write the configuration by hand — SnipTray generates the exact file for each tool. The same server works with any client that speaks MCP over stdio.

Note

If the MCP pane says the bridge was not found, run a full build/reinstall of SnipTray so the bundled sniptray-mcp helper is present, then reopen Settings → MCP.
