MCP privacy, control, and revoking access

Clipboard history can hold sensitive things, so SnipTray treats MCP access as something you grant deliberately and can take back instantly.

• The app is the gatekeeper — MCP is off by default, and every AI tool must be explicitly added before it can connect.
• On-device, over a private socket — the server listens on a local Unix socket, not a network port. Your snips never leave your Mac; only the specific answers your assistant asks for do.
• Read-only history — assistants can search, read, copy a snip back, and save a new snippet, but cannot delete or edit snips or change your categories and sharing.
• One token per tool — each assistant you add holds its own private token, so you can cut off one without affecting the others.

Revoke a tool’s access

1. 1 Open Settings → MCP. Each connected tool is listed with when it was added and last used.
2. 2 Choose the tool and select Revoke access. Its token stops working immediately — no reinstall or reset needed.
3. 3 To cut off everything at once, turn off "Enable MCP access". The server stops and no tool can connect until you turn it back on.
